Moved here in 2008, the Fayette Yates Texas Longhorn collection fills five rooms with over 1,000 Texas longhorn cattle mounts: head and horns, skull and horns, full body and horns -- you get the idea.

The Historic Yates Texas Longhorn horn collection is the largest collection of its kind in the world. The Yates collection features over 1,000 Texas Longhorn Mounts -- head and horn mounts, skull and horn mounts, horn mounts, and full body mounts of Texas Longhorn Cattle. There isn't another Longhorn Collection this size anywhere on Earth. All of the mounts are of Texas Longhorn Cattle; there are no horn mounts from Brahamer, Hereford, African, or European cattle in this collection. It also features the head mount of the famous Texas Longhorn steer "Amigo Yates," current World Champion longest horned Texas Longhorned steer, with a confirmed live measurement of 8 ft. 9 1/2inches. His horn spread out distanced past champion "Old Tex" by almost one foot. This collection was assembled by now 80 year old Fayette Yates a third generation Texas Longhorn Raiser, Historian, and Texas Longhorn expert.

Fayette Yates died in 2007. His horn-ucopia was bought and moved to Lajitas in 2008. The Texas Longhorn Museum has over 500 sets of horns in five rooms (plus the bathrooms) of the old Lajitas Trading Post.
