Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center

This center has been needed for a long time. We Central Wisconsinites have always known that we are among the top cranberry producers in the nation. In fact we are often number one. But the rest of the country has very little information about the cranberry industry here. My daughter and I visited and got lots of free samples. Here's something I bet you didn't know: cranberries and blueberries are related.

Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center

We visited in December 2011. We weren't sure what to expect, but it was fun! The cranberry ice cream was delicious. I also bought some cranberry salsa that I'm going to have to get more of somehow...

Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center

The Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center opened this fall in downtown Warrens, Wisconsin. Housed in a renovated cranberry warehouse, the Discovery Center features an exhibit hall, gift shop, bakery and old-fashioned ice cream parlor serving six flavors of cranberry ice cream. Warrens is the "Cranberry Capital" of Wisconsin. Roughly two-thirds of Wisconsin 240 cranberry growers are in the Warrens, Tomah, Wisconsin Rapids area.

[Lorry, 10/16/2004]

Lorry adds: "The founders of the Cranberry Expo donated the contents of their museum to the Wisconsin State Cranberry Growers Association and the museum is now known as the Wisconsin Cranberry Discovery Center."
