The story behind the Rocket is that it was built for Jay Peak ski hill in Jay, Vermont. People enroute from the ten and Montreal kept stopping at the general store at the corner to ask how to get to Jay Peak, so the Rocket was erected, with the nose pointing towards the right street to take for Jay Peak.
It was originally painted with advertisements and directions/mileage of the Ski Hill, but was whitewashed, presumably when Jay stopped paying...
[Alleta, 12/14/2007]A local landmark! Locals say the owner built it to send his enemies to the moon! Some others said it was for marketing purposes because there was a store right beside it...who knows. However, the store burned down in the '70s and the rocket still stands there.
