As children, my brother and I looked forward trips to the Shelton Yard Birds store. This was mostly due to the free popcorn, as well as to check out the vast array of rodents they offered as pets. We would always stare in wonder at the large, goofy bird that was perched on the roof above the entrance. In the early '90s a sad thing happened -- the store closed its doors, and the bird flew the coop. Over the years, we often wondered what became of our beloved plaster friend. This question was answered a few weeks ago as I drove past Hunter Farms on my way to work. Lo and Behold, there was the same yellow beaked smile that greeted so many customers all those years ago. The Yard Bird has once again been put to work doing what he does best. He now welcomes vistiors at the side entrance of the produce stand.
