A Muffler Man, painted as a Pittsburgh Steeler football player for years, was decapitated by a storm in 2009. Repainted as a Bunyan in 2021; the old head finally reattached on July 26, 2023.

The Muffler Man in Greensburg has regained his head as of 7/26/23.
[Paul Adams, 07/31/2023]An impressive example of fiberglass statue endurance (or neck plumbing), this one survived 14 years with nothing above his shirt collar.
This guy's headless days are almost over according to the workers at Lugnutz Tire Service. They have restored the Bunyan head and will soon repaint their football player back into the lumberjack he used to be. I stopped and got the scoop and some last pictures before the restoration starts -- hopefully some time this summer, they said.
[Joel Baker, 06/25/2013]We've been passing this Muffler Man all my life. He's a highly anticipated sight on our way to visit Grandma; in our family he's fondly called "Baseball Onion." His former incarnation (before being a football player with the #8) was Paul Bunyan. Look at his clothing's details and you'll see the lumberjack-ness. My childish mispronunciation left him with our nickname.
"Baseball Onion" and a chocolate-dipped cone at the nearby DQ were always highlights of our trip.
