Towners, New York: Rosemary's Texas Taco (Closed)

I really think Texas Taco, Towners, NY, deserves inclusion in your sites. I first visited "Mary" or "Rosemary" in the summer of 1993 when road-tripping through Towners which is pretty much a backwater about ten miles from Danbury CT. What drew us to Texas Taco was what we saw IN BACK OF THE BUILDING. It was a sculpture garden the likes of which I have never seen. I really can't give an adequate description except to say that it looked like the funkiest junkyard in the world. There was Spike Jones and Al Jolson tunes blaring from hidden loudspeakers in the trees, a monkey in a cage, parrots and a ring-tailed lemur lurking about.

If the outdoor "veranda" wasn't enough, you have to meet "Rosemary" inside to order the Tex-Mex cuisine. Rosemary hasn't changed a bit over the years. Her hair is usually electric blue and she takes her make-up tips from the Rocky Horror school of Beauty. Oh, Rosemary must be in her 50s...I imagine she ended up in Towners coming back from Woodstock because her truck broke down. The Truck is parked in the lot and it is festooned wioth all kinds of bizarre trinkets...dolls heads, seashells, radio knobs. Indoors is just like something out of a wild Acid trip. Robots, mannequins, huge WW2 model Bombers hanging from the ceiling. Like i SAID...YOU HAVE TO SEE IT TO BELIEVE IT.
