Field of Corn

I realize people laugh at this attraction. But I searched in my mind for what the artist's intent was. Because of the scale, with the corn sculptures in relation to the acreage, they had to be big. What it reminded me of was Arlington National Cemetery. What used to be corn fields and dairy farms is now all paved over and built upon. I think the artist was hoping for the effect of an homage to the corn fields that are now gone. My Mom and Dad had moved to Dublin from the far east side of Columbus, and it's been years since I've been back there. I wish people might think of this instead of laughing at it.

What a bizarre find -- much of the fact because unlike most roadside attractions, the Corn is right alongside business offices and other commercial buildings. Was particularly creepy because our road trip had us arriving just before dawn. In the still of night, it was certainly a strange experience.

It was fun to see, and made better by finding Graeters Ice Cream just a few blocks beforehand. This was our first stop on our road trip from Cleveland to Kansas City for our honeymoon.
