Easter Egg Museum

Todd DelMarter let us know about his visit to the long closed Easter Egg Museum, in the former home of the late Mildred Vrooman, a Schoharie librarian and creator of intricate miniature scenes of historical figures with eggs for heads.

Always elusive when it came to public access (though it would open daily from Palm Sunday to Easter Sunday), the museum closed permanently in 2007 or so. Mildred died in 2012. The current owners have kept the collection intact, but not as a public attraction. The last tour date was in 2014. Todd got a peek during a rare tour window in 2019, and shared his photo of the Last Supper in eggs.

Easter Egg Museum (aka Easter Egg Exhibit)

Run by local grande dame Mildred Vrooman, a retired Schoharie librarian who started the exhibit in 1964. A local told us she takes her easter eggs very seriously -- there are over 5,000 here, arranged thematically and in scenes. The tree outside was festooned with plastic day-glo eggs, and the lawn featured smiling bunny cutouts -- the kind you see on elementary school bulletin boards. Unfortunately, it was closed when we visited.
