The Jeffrey's Hook lighthouse sits beneath the George Washington Bridge. It was made famous by the 1942 children's book The Little Red Lighthouse and the Great Gray Bridge by Hildegarde Swift and Lynd Ward. The US Coast Guard planned to dismantle it in 1951, but due to the public outcry from fans of the book, it was placed on the National Register of Historic Places.
