The ghost town of Metropolis is worth the detour. If going in winter, have 4-wheel drive.

This is a more recent ghost town, first settled in 1910 and dead by 1935, so instead of rotting Old West buildings the remnants are concrete foundations of a school, hotel, etc. According to Howard Hickson's Histories: "Drought, water rights litigation, high interest rates, jackrabbits and Mormon crickets contributed to the demise of the town and surrounding farms."
