We've learned from years of traveling to small towns that mayors often wield considerable power. Whether it's helping us get access to a town treasure in storage, or tossing cow chips across Main Street, public officials can be extremely helpful (except when they aren't).
In the case of Felicity, Mayor Jacques-Andre Istel has always been gracious and accommodating, keeping us posted on the latest constructions at his desert vision of "remembrance," the Official Center of the World.
During our visit in Spring 2007, the Mayor went one step further, proclaiming "Roadside America Day." With all the authority granted him by the State of California, he put the official proclamation together right before our eyes, with the aid of his wife Felicia (she of Felicity-inspiring renown).
