Video: 1966: Cape Kennedy Home Movie
Titusville, Florida
At the height of America's effort to put a man on the moon, NASA opened its most well known facility for public visits. Kennedy Space Center bus tours began on July 22, 1966. A few weeks later, the Kirby family was at the gates, fresh from stops at Saint Augustine Alligator Farm and Marineland.
Jack Kirby's handheld, silent 16mm home movie footage is about what you'd expect from a ride on a bus with tinted windows. But Jack elbowed his way to a nice vantage over the bus driver's shoulder, and made sure to document the bathroom break.
