Roadside America toured the USA's best preserved Cold War nuclear defense installation, Nike Missile Site SF-88, just north of San Francisco, in the Headlands at Fort Barry. Groups get up close to the launch pad and enter the weapons storage bunker. The tours run every Saturday; we recommend going on the first Saturday of the month, when military veterans and others connected with the Nike missile program can answer all of your questions.
Our video includes brief clips from a 27-minute long Army film "The Nike-Hercules Story," created for public awareness in 1960. An existential threat. America is prepared. Bombers approaching.
