Jim Bishop, one-man castle builder. His construction is one of Colorado's strangest, most monumental attractions.
Summer of 1994: the Roadside America Team of writers and artists drove from Los Angeles to New York City. We had an itinerary of 50 must-see quirky attractions, experimental cameras and software for the World Wide Web (!), and a stunned New York Times reporter in the back seat. We just couldn't pass up a mountain detour to Bishop Castle, hoping to chat with Jim.
Summer of 2023: we returned to Bishop Castle to check if Jim had pulled off his envisioned improvements.
