Shrine of the Holy Relics
Maria Stein, Ohio
Quietly tended by the Sisters of the Precious Blood, over 1,200 relics -- often tiny slivers of Catholic Saint remains -- are held in golden stands and lockets hung on chapel walls. Fourteen different Jesus relics are at the National Marian Shrine of the Holy Relics, including a crucifix nail, a thorn from His crown, and pieces of His cradle and the Last Supper table. The actual body of Saint Victoria (imported from Italy, we think) lays under the Sacred Heart Altar.
The Maria Stein Shrine claims to be the second largest Holy Relic collection in the U.S., offering a display that is memorable even for the casually curious. Ninety-five percent of the relics, we are assured, are first class, authenticated by the Vatican.
In addition, on the property you will find the diminutive Chapel in the Woods, which features an ornately carved scene from Hell on the altar.
