Alien Doughnut Overlord
Roswell, New Mexico
E.T. may have craved Reese's Pieces, but a 22-foot-tall Roswell space alien advertises its love of franchised doughnuts and coffee. It's the largest (thus far) example of a corporate entity in Roswell tailoring the city's signature space alien mascot for its own earthly purpose.
Erected in November 2018, the unusually muscular -- and certainly not little -- green man cost more than $35,000, and weighs over a ton. It was built of steel-reinforced styrofoam covered in a hard shell of polyurethane. Like America's Carpeteria Genies, the alien is two-faced, welcoming terrestrial scrutiny from both directions on Main Street.
News reports at the time quoted the statue's owner describing it as "a landmark, something that will stay here forever," and Roswell's mayor proclaiming it "perfect."
There was initially talk of a contest to name the alien, but nothing seems to have come of it yet.
