- Aberdeen, Washington - Kurt Cobain Relics
The Crying Kurt Cobain Made of Cement sculpture is no longer at the Aberdeen Museum of History. The gentleman working there says it was taken back by the original owner and sold to someone in Seattle. There is a nice Nirvana/Kurt Cobain themed mural, the original bench from Viretta Park, and a couch that Kurt allegedly slept on during his adolescent wanderings. The museum also has some nice exhibits and vehicles from Aberdeen's past.

This was amazing and so worth the trip from Seattle. The natives of Anacortes don't even seem to acknowledge it any more. Driving on the road, you probably wouldn't know it was ship, since it's so overgrown -- but knowing it is really makes it spectacular. I walked down the gang plank right to the ship and no one stopped me.

- Chehalis, Washington - Weird Right-Wing Uncle Sam Billboard
I've been observing this "outsider art" masterpiece for years, on the land of a farmer, Hamilton. Sold his farm a few years ago but gave himself an easement so he could change the messages. It's designed to raise the hackles of those traveling between the lefty hotbeds of anywhere in Oregon and the Olympia-Tacoma-Seattle area. There is a crude illustration of Uncle Sam on both sides and room for letters like on any theatre marquee or muffler shop signboard --messages of a far-right-wing bent.

- Des Moines, Washington - Fish with Human Breasts Statue
South of Seattle in downtown Des Moines, WA, west of I-5 and just off the Puget Sound, is a small shopping center. In front of the QFC supermarket is a bronze statue about 5 feet tall of an elderly fisherman in joyful embrace of a fish that is nearly his size. The interesting thing is that the fish has human female breasts. The liveliness of the pose of the figures is what makes the statue so charming and appealing. It created some controversy but overall the statue is inoffensive.

Folk art environment is a colorful riot of bicycle wheel reflector sculptures, bottle cap tesserae, telephone pole heads studded with nails. Artist Dick passed away; artist Jane soldiers on.

The ship has a "Danger" sign next to it, so walking up to it for snapshots is apparently okay, but no climbing.
