Built in 1829 by Silas Noyes, a local resident, at a cost of $28. It is one of Maine's best-preserved stone cattle pounds. Prior to its construction the town Pound Keepers (there were seven at one time) had to keep stray animals on their own properties. The pound remained in use until about 1888, when the office of Pound Keeper was discontinued. It was listed on the National Register of Historic Places in 2004.

My husband grew up going to Wisconsin Deer Park in the summers in the '80s. Now we took our little one with grandparents. Tame deer walk up and eat crackers and corn out of your hand. They have exotic and other animals behind wires, but it is an interesting experience. It's a big petting zoo!
