35 feet tall, a smiling, one-toothed, white-bearded prospector wearing a floppy hat. Abandoned by his casino owners in 2014, Joe was rescued by the townspeople and moved to a place of honor in front of the Sparks Museum.

There is a Muffler Man at Bill's Truck Stop Restaurant on I-85 south. He used be at the Sunoco in Salisbury at the corner of US-601 and US-70. Before that, he was at Mid-State Oil at US-601 and Old Wilkesboro Road.

Harvey's head became museum-worthy after someone pounded a wagon spike through it. Also on exhibit: the noose of the only man legally hanged in Fremont County, formerly displayed in the town saloon.

The bearded man with the vest, boots, and upraised arm is a fine roadside statue, but not a Muffler Man. It's variously described as a pioneer, a prospector, or a Daniel Boone. Several stand in spots across the country.
