Boy and the Boot
Salida, Colorado
This particular Boy and the Boot (there are many others in the USA) arrived in town circa 1890. He was set up as the centerpiece of a fountain on the lawn of what was then the Denver and Rio Grande Railroad Hospital, possibly as an odd memorial to a locomotive engineer named Charles Hinkle. At some point he was removed, and he wasn't seen again until 1981, when he was discovered in a tunnel beneath the hospital. The Boy was restored and returned to his fountain.
Although the hospital subsequently closed and moved, the Boy has remained, standing outside what is now Salida's city hall.
