Bangor, Michigan: Muffler Man - Viking

We were able to get permission to get on the field and get some great shots of the Bangor Viking. There are only about nine roadside Viking statues that are left. They were made by International Fiberglass (the makers of Muffler Men) for the Viking Carpet company, and were used around the country to promote the company until it folded. Many of the Vikings like this one have ended up at schools. This one has faded paint and a number of large holes. He desperately needs restoration.

The Viking is heavily fenced and difficult to photograph, but if you go during a school football game, you can get right up to it.

This Viking was found at Bangor High School in Bangor, MI in Van Buren County. It is a Muffler Man-sized fellow and has been here for many years. This is at the athletic field on W. Arlington St. in town and it is protected by 2 fences! The high school mascot is the Viking.

This I believe is a Muffler Man Viking without the shield. It is the Bangor High School Mascot that is on their track and field arena. It has been there for as long I remember. I tried to get the principal to confirm the statue but never got back, so when visiting my parents this last week I went there and took pictures. Still there standing strong!
