The tunnel mural on the wall of the Federal Land Bank Building is very realistic. The bullet holes in the Yield sign and the rusty boltheads in the Yield sign and the One Way sign are nice touches.

A photo realist mural painted by artist Blue Sky on the wall of the Federal Land Bank Building. It is really neat to see and it is lit up at night. TOO BAD this is not a cartoon scene, because you can't drive through the tunnel! BEEP BEEP!

Statutory Crime: Kidnappers strike at another Cancer Survivors Plaza
Only six months after a similar incident in Tucson, Arizona, authorities in Columbia, South Carolina report a statue of a child missing from their Cancer Survivors Plaza. Last week, a caste bronze of a little girl being carried towards the "surviving cancer" portal in Maxcy Gregg Park was stolen. The statue is worth about $8,000.
In August, 2003, at Tucson's a related Cancer Survivor Plaza, the Skipping Boy statue -- merrily exiting on the far end of the misshapen cancer portal -- was hacked from its base and stolen. Though heavy and well-anchored, the statues are portable enough as moron vandal targets -- alternatives to local Nativity infant Jesi and Big Boy figures.
Cancer Survivor Plazas have spread unchecked in major cities across the US, appreciated by fans and survivors, but criticized by others as "hideous" mass-produced public "art."
Update: The statue of the little girl was recovered after an anonymous tip on January 23.
[01/25/2004]Dead senator's biracial daughter's name to be added to his monument
South Carolina's Governor Mark Sanford has approved a bill that will append Strom Thurmond's monument in Columbia with the name of his long-secret, mixed-race daughter. It was quite the revelation in 2003, when venerable 100-year old Thurmond finally departed, and a woman stepped forward to claim she was his daughter by way of his union with a teenage housekeeper in the 1920s. Essie Mae Washington-Williams' claim was true. Now her name will be forever displayed on the monument to the unrepentant segregationist.

It's in the same parking lot as the giant fireplug. Drunks might swerve to avoid the hydrant and crash here!
