Stopped at the 5-Points intersection to see this fountain. Strange choice of characters, but it's definitely a ram reading to other animals.

A ram-headed "storyteller" reads to an array of frogs and animals in this fountain sculpture -- interpreted by some as Satanic.

Satanic Fountain in 5 Points... Birminghamians jokingly reference the Satanic Fountain in driving directions, but this infamous sculpture by Frank Fleming is a Birmingham landmark. A goat headed pagan man statue sits atop a stone tree trunk reading an undetermined book to a circle of entranced animals. This landmark is centrally located in the youthful, club oriented center of town and is a favorite hang out for goth kids. Certainly worthy of a photo, especially considering Birmingham's strict Baptist heritage.
[Denise, 09/25/2003]Spent yesterday visiting the Coon Dog Cemetery. What a wonderful day at this one-of-a-kind-place devoted to the memory of the "Coon Dog." Loved paying my respects to these animals.

A little piece of paradise, we made a stop at this kid friendly location and had a lovely picnic. Swings, ceramic animals and picnic tables for kids and adults.

Jan 2009: Photo added. December 2007: There's another animal-headed human sculpture by Frank Fleming in the Buckhead section of Atlanta. It's a fanciful version of how "Buckhead" got its name -- with an antlered storyteller in this case, enthralling a gathering of turtles, two dogs and a rabbit.
