Can anyone tell me what happened to the cowboy holding a burger at the Cowtown USA Drive-In in Fort Worth? I have a picture of it from 1971.

This isn't the first Wendy's restaurant, as the sign over the door might lead you to believe, but it is their flagship store, chock full of memorabilia and historic artifacts. Items include original concept drawings of the Wendy character, crew member pins, and bobble heads of founder Dave Thomas and Wendy. Although something was missing: the $105,000 Waterford crystal hamburger. Nowhere to be seen. Maybe the McDonald's Hamburglar had something to do with this!
[Mike Gassmann, 09/20/2021]The "1st restaurant" sign is an artifact from the actual restaurant in Columbus, Ohio, that displayed many historical items.

A large retro steel man advertises Big John's Cafe. He is holding a giant shake and burger.
[E.W., 07/31/2021]A rare survivor -- the sign, anyway -- of a failed hamburger franchise from the late 1960s. The menu inside now is probably very different.

We don't know where this big guy moved after his Cowtown USA days... the original cowboy style was usually not combined with a giant hamburger (see Kingsport, TN and the Hamburger-turned-taco platter in Malibu, CA), but made sense in Cowtown-crazy Fort Worth.
