Oscar Monnig was a dry goods salesman who collected meteorites from the 1930s until his death in 1999 (The panhandles of Texas and Oklahoma are good places to find meteorites). He left the bulk of his $4 million estate to Texas Christian University to build a viewing gallery for his space rocks.
