After 44 years in business, the Schmidt Museum of Coca-Cola Memorabilia closed without warning on April 27, 2011. The entire collection of some 80,000 items -- including a Coke ad painted on the side of a barn -- will be sold at a series of auctions over the next several years. Plans for the closing had apparently been underway for years. They were kept secret, according to one news report, to allow visitors to have a pleasant time up to the very last day.
