The Time Portal Device looks like an early television set with a screen that features a sort of Dr. Who traveling-through-the-universe graphic. When you press a button, an actor who vaguely resembles Edison appears. He has pre-programmed answers to questions from a drop down menu that range from his greatest failure to questions about AC/DC power. In the most entertaining answer, he explains what the device looks like that he is speaking into from the past. Figuring it out was mildly entertaining, but we moved on pretty quickly once we understood it.

He's still here, as he has been for all of my 44 years. Ken's Muffler Shop is no more. The business is now "Drive Away Motors," and I fear for the Muffler Man's future.

- I-10 W., Beaumont, TX

- West of the city at I-10 exit 838. Exit the freeway, then take the ramp back onto I-10 westbound. The Gator is next to that ramp, on the north side, near the point where it reconnects to the freeway. Or, you could pay admission at Gator Country ($15) and see the gator close up.
The building is visible from both directions of MLK, a divided highway. It looks like mostly old car parts. Interesting if you are driving by, but not worth going out of your way.

We enjoyed seeing the World's Largest Working Fire Hydrant and touring the museum. We were even able to trade our fire department patch for a local patch.

Owner Lonnie Flanagan has been chaining, roping, and wiring car parts, lawn ornaments, lights, signs, and random junk to the outside of his barn for decades. He claims it's a museum where everything is visible from the outside. He also recently expanded his art to junk sculptures, which are exhibited in an adjacent field.
