Pee at the Berlin Wall

Field review by the editors.

Las Vegas, Nevada

Of all the Berlin Wall chunks in museums and memorials across America, we think this one is the most fun. You don't actually pee ON the Wall, you pee INTO one of the urinals attached to it, but the message is clear. It's in the first men's room off of the main floor of Main Street Station Casino, one of the older establishments in Las Vegas's downtown Glitter Gulch district.

Berlin Wall Urinal.

Above the Wall are historic photos and Berlin Wall specs: 12 ft. high, 18 in. thick, 27.5 miles long, impervious to pee. We added that last one.

We don't condone efforts to take a picture of the Wall -- after all, it's in a casino, and that kind of thing is probably frowned upon -- but the attempt can transport you back into the Cold War era.

You will have to disguise your intentions and loiter in the restroom corridor without drawing suspicion. There are security cameras at all the approaches, steely-eyed guards patrolling, and passersby that may turn you in for a complementary cocktail. Finally, there are the men at the Wall, camera-shy and trying not to shed their gambling mojo while they urinate.

This gives a good sense of how nerve-wracking it must have been to conquer the Wall when it stood across Berlin. Okay, well, maybe then you wouldn't have had to risk urinating men.

Note: Apparently the women's bathroom attendant will signal the All Clear and allow female patrons to take a peek at the Wall.
