Next to the lake, a beautiful venue, near the steam paddle boats, you will find a circular plaza on a map of Lake George that causes a bizarre acoustical effect when you stand on the worn gold cross, face the lake, and speak.
I have to admit I was looking for something that looked more mysterious (I remember spilling grape juice in the same pattern on Mom's rug and getting a time out). It is really cool, though. Take a second to try it when in Lake George. My tall son had to bend down to get the full effect. Like talking into a reverberator.
[Chris Harmon, 04/20/2013]The acoustical effect at this location is caused by the reflection of sound from the semi-circular stone wall. The sound is directed back at the person who is standing in the center of the circle, near the map of the lake on the ground (You have to be standing in the center of curvature of the wall to experience the maximum effect of the sound reflection from the wall. As you move toward or away from the wall the sound effect becomes weaker until it can't be heard). This sound effect was discovered after the wall was built. There is nothing mysterious about it.

Acoustical Mystery. Relief map of Lake George that has the oddest reverberance when you stand directly in the center of the map where north, south, east and west cross. Odd and fun!

Maybe not totally mysterious, but renaming as the "Lake George Easily Explained Acoustical Effect Spot" won't help Lake George tourism (though, hmmm).
