Farmington, Maine: Smiling, Waving Tree
Tree was formerly studded with hard hats as a memorial for dead loggers. The tree itself died in 2014, and has been carved with a grinning face and waving branch arm, with a few hard hats on top.

- From downtown Farmington drive north on ME-27/Main St. for two miles. At the fork in road, keep right to stay on ME-27. Drive another mile. You'll see the tree on the right.

Was cool, but is definitely in someones yard. While we didn't see a dog, there was a sign on the house "Beware of dog, dog bites."

A tree stump waving a welcome from the side of the road. What was once a tree called Union Camp (with a multitude of hard hats attached to it) is now a waving tree stump complete with woodland creatures peeping out of knotholes and a hobbit door.

The hard hats were nailed to the white pine tree as memorials for dead loggers. When the tree died, and John and Nancy Arsenault carved the stump into its current form, their work was slowed by all the nails. A few hard hats were left at the top of the stump as a reminder.
