Balto the Wonderdog will return to Alaska

Tourism News

According to a report in the Wall Street Journal, heroic sled dog Balto will visit Alaska for six months. Balto has been stuffed and on display in Cleveland, Ohio for 65 years.

Alaskan school children have signed a petition to "Bring Balto Home," and the Alaskan senate passed a resolution that Alaska, not Ohio, is Balto's home. The same Balto fervor swept up Cleveland kids in 1927, when they helped save the legendary dog. The loan to the Anchorage Museum of History and Art will be temporary, promise officials at Cleveland's Museum of Natural History. [09/20/1998]
