St. Petersburg Wants Their Russian Sub Moved, Too

Even as the world's attention was riveted on a sunken Russian sub this week, St. Petersburg, Florida is making noises to remove another one from local Bayboro Harbor. We have previously written about the 300-foot-long Juliett-class vessel.

The city had given Oy-Sub Expo of Helsinki, Finland a deadline by which to get the black sub moved, but the deadline passed this week. So officials have upped the daily tariff from $65 to $288 in a move designed to send a strong signal to the sub's owners.

Until the sub is moved, the city cannot proceed with a major dredging project.

Update: 2002 - the sub has found a home in Rhode Island.
