Newseum adds death car to its prestigious collection

Tourism News

The Newseum, a museum about journalists, has accepted the donation of a bomb-damaged car from the widow of the car's driver, investigative reporter Don Bolles. Organized crime figures, unhappy with stories Bolles wrote about them, paid a hit man to blow the newsman up in his car in 1976. The Newseum, which plans to feature the car in an exhibit remembering journalists killed in the line of duty, remains closed as it moves from Arlington, Virginia to an expanded facility in Washington DC.

Death cars have proven to be popular tourist draws for less prestigious establishments, including Whiskey Pete's Casino (Bonnie & Clyde's Death Car), the Missouri Highway Patrol Safety Education Center (a drunk's death car), and Carbo's Police Museum (Buford Pusser's Death Car). [02/08/2004]
