Whittier's King of Muffler Men sold on EBay
The Midas Muffler man statue in Whittier, California sold for an amazing $1,325 on an ebay auction in March. The statue stood on the roof of a muffler shop since 1962, and had been taken down in 2003 and placed in storage.
The winning bid was by George and Pam Farnham, Unger, West Virginia. After S. Bilyeu tipped us on the sale, we checked in with George -- he filled us in on his Muffler Man pursuit: "We're ecstatic to have purchased the Whittier Muffler Man. We tried to buy the Hot Dog Paul Bunyon in Cicero Illinois last year." That one was ultimately snatched by the Route 66 town of Atlanta, Illinois.
Next week, the King of Muffler Men will be transported to Unger, WV, 100 miles west of Baltimore, Maryland. His accessories include the Midas Muffler Crown, and a large car muffler painted yellow.
George notes "He will be the third Muffler Man in the state, but the others are nowhere near us. Although in a private collection, he will be at the top of our driveway clearly visible from in front of our house."
