Highest Tides in the World
Hopewell Cape, New Brunswick
Timing is everything when you visit the Bay of Fundy and its shoreline formations, the Hopewell Rocks, also known as "sea stacks."
A flight of 100 metal stairs leads down from the parking lot to the ocean floor, which you can walk on at low tide, and see the rocks up close from below. But beware: a bilingual sign with a ticking clock shows how much time you have before you must run -- or at least jog very briskly -- to the stairs to escape the twice-daily tide, which comes in fast and can raise the water level 52 feet!
Flip-flops would not be recommended at an attraction where you might have to race against the oncoming sea.
