- Pearsonville, California - Hubcap Capital of the World
Pearsonville was once known as the "Hubcap Capital of the World" because of resident Lucy Pearson's collection of over 80,000 hubcaps. Despite the moniker, not one hubcap could be found (and neither was Lucy for that matter) during a visit over Easter weekend. The Uniroyal Girl is there as well as an old junkyard and funky abandoned childrens' playground. But except for a Subway sandwich stop just up the road, Pearsonville is a modern-day ghost town. Unless you wanna sammy it's not worth a visit.
[Glamour Bomb, 04/03/2013] This Uniroyal Gal is known locally as "Hubcap Lady," in honor to longtime town resident Hubcap Annie, "Queen of Hubcaps." She has been a fixture of Pearsonville for decades. She now stands in front of the local park playfield. Her paint is faded from the Mohave Desert sun, but she can be easily seen from the 395 highway.

We drove by hoping to get some hubcaps to add to our neighborhood hubcap art project, but it was closed. It was Monday around noon so not sure when it would be open. There are a lot of old junked cars in the junkyard. The playground and statue are there. The house across the highway has a bunch of hubcaps decorating the fence to support the Hubcap Capital of the World theme, I guess.
[Hmr, 08/17/2012] On a recent Trip to Mammoth, CA for a wedding, we spotted a Uniroyal Girl on Hwy 395, standing near the Pearsonville Water Tank and Park. Pearsonville is in Inyo County, California. The population was 17 at the 2010 census.
Years ago, Pearsonville had been dubbed the "Hubcap Capital of the World," because of former resident Lucy Pearson's collection of hubcaps, which were rumored to number over 80,000.

Claims-to-fame can be vaporous. Maybe when the town revives, hubcap ladies will pour in from every corner of the globe. And the continued presence of a rare Uniroyal Gal suggests that all is not lost in Pearsonville.
