- Cave City, Kentucky - Guntown Mountain
I had not visited Guntown since 1997. In 1998 there was a fire that destroyed much of Guntown. Apparently they decided to open up minus most of their attractions, charge more and keep going.
My 2009 visit was a huge disappointment. The admission fee had gone up, the rides were gone, the train was gone. The can-can show was very short, the less than entertaining gunfight was short, the country music show was good but short also (about 6 songs). There were beggars everywhere, selling garters from the can-can girls, selling CD's from the country music show -- the same people did everything. Tip jars were everywhere too. The Old Time Photography was no good either, run by an unfriendly person, very delayed, way too pricey for poor quality picture. There was a petting farm with a few worn out animals. They begged for money to feed the animals. In short, pay more money for less. Don't bother with this place.

Guntown Mountain was a great hit with us! I took my 8 yr old son and we had a blast.
Tip -- keep your wristbands on, you can go back the next day for free. The trip up the lift was relaxing and the view was great. Everyone was VERY polite and helpful. Tip -- after the gunfights, the kids can scramble to get the spent blanks. The Can Can Show was great. Truthfully, my son fell in love (first crush 'aint it grand) with the singer. If you need a gift to bring back to someone...get a "Local Newspaper" with your name in the headline -- only $2.

Cute, but run down. All the same employees could be seen in all of the "shows." The shoot-out and country music show were probably the best. The can cans really need to learn to dance better. Not much of a petting zoo. I wouldn't spend more than 1-2 hours there. You will find the cheapest gift shops in town there, though.
[Laura, 08/24/2008] My husband and I took our daughter and 3 grandchildren to Gun Town Mountain as a side trip on our way to Tennessee. We all had a wonderful time! The shoot-out was great, and we all enjoyed the can-can show with the comic "drunk." The country western music performance was also very good. All in all, I would highly recommend a stop at Guntown Mountain if you find yourself in this area.
[Mary Jo, 07/25/2008]- Cave City, Kentucky - Guntown Mountain - Jail Your Kids
When our family visited Mammoth Cave, KY, we were interested in finding a "secondary" point of interest to round out our trip to the area - and we found it in Gun Town Mountain.
Opened in 1970, Gun Town Mountain sits atop a bluff, overlooking the Cave City area. We took a quaint 5 minute chair-lift ride (which, in itself, was a highlight for our pre-teen kids) to the top to find an entire city block of reconstructed western style buildings.
Although the ambience was more than adequate, it was the actors and performers which gave this attraction a "two thumbs up" rating in our book. From the "Can Can Girls", to the Western shootouts in the street, to the incredible sounding "top shelf" band which performed on multiple occasions, our entire family was occupied with programs which ran the duration of the day. After "siting" for an old-tyme portrait from the town photographer, we left Gun Town Mountain throughly pleased with our nearly full-day experience.
One single caveat: If you attend anticipating a mega-million "six flags" experience, you may want to realign your expectations to what Gun Town Mountain really has to offer: 3-4 hours of great family fun and entertainment, all arranged and choreographed by a host of talented actors and musicians.
One final tip: For $1, the Town Marshall will arrest a family member and put them in a real jail - for 5 minutes (For our kids, this gave new meaning to the term "time out".).

Of course when looking for world class can-can performances, we always head to Cave City.
