We just ate at Marianas and it's wonderful! In 60 years I had the best pulled pork sandwich ever! The setting on the water is beautiful, the decor is charming, the staff is warm, the food and drinks are generous, delicious and cheap -- especially compared to prices in Honolulu and Waikiki. Thank you Casey (our waitress).

Hard to find. When I was here it was crowded, but it is a true local legend. Outside of Touristville and off the beaten path of corporate restaurants.

Hawaii's oldest surviving tiki bar -- puffer fish lights, seashell lamp shades, carved tikis, wraparound booths -- is vintage Hawaii. The decor is unchanged since the 1950s and it's definitely off the beaten path. They have live music most nights, which, during our visit, consisted of three men in Aloha shirts singing oldies with a karaoke machine. Food was OK, drinks were good.
