Providence, RI, has become the home for a Russian sub turned tourist attraction we first reported on in 1998 when it turned up in St. Petersburg, FL, looking for a home. After the St. Pete plan fell through, owners unsuccessfully attempted to sell the Juliett class submarine for $1 million on Ebay. But fortunes changed for the U484 when it was used in the Harrison Ford movie K-19 The Widowmaker. The Saratoga Museum Foundation then bought it and set it up as a museum at Collier Point Park. Former members of the Soviet Navy have helped to translate signs and labels on equipment, and fill in details on life aboard a Cold War sub. [09/24/2002]
