Statutory Crime: Vandals whitewash giant Joe Louis Fist
Last Monday in Detroit, Michigan, two out-of-town idiots were arrested for vandalizing a huge Joe Louis punching fist sculpture with gallons of white paint. The 24-ft. arm dangles from a metal tripod above a plaza in downtown, and is one of the stranger memorials to the famous boxing hero, who passed away in 1981. Firefighters promptly blasted the paint off with high-powered hoses. [02/29/2004]
