On February 15, the Western Reserve Historical Society sold their muffler man on eBay for $7,100. The statue had been in storage for several years and was declared "excess inventory." His accessories include a cowboy hat and an 18 ft. long rifle. According to the auction description, "This figure graced an Oklahoma truck stop until about 1990, when it was purchased and completely refurbished and repainted."

- Hatch, New Mexico - Muffler Man - In Storage
He is still in storage. I spoke to someone at the Crawford Museum who said they lost their funding for the planned new museum after 9/11, so everything they got remains in storage. Alas.
[anthony annoyance, 07/28/2005] This is a follow up to the message I sent about the Muffler Man formerly located in Oakwood Village, Ohio. Now owned by the Western Reserve Historical Society of Cleveland Ohio, it's now in our storage facility in Macedonia, Ohio. I snapped a pic of our slightly disemboweled "Big Guy," which will be cleaned and reassembled and installed in our new Crawford Museum of Transportation and Industry, along with a Big Boy restaurant statue, and a flying saucer-shaped gas station. We're hoping to have the museum opened on Cleveland's lakefront in 2004.
[Christopher J. Dawson, 04/23/2001]- Hatch, New Mexico - Muffler Man - confirmed
A Muffler Man sighting was reported in Oakwood, Ohio back in May, 1999. I live in Twinsburg, Ohio which is next to the city of Oakwood. I see this Muffler Man every day on my way to the highway (Ravenna/Broadway road)to and from work. This Muffler man wears a short sleeved, white t-shirt with right palm up, left palm down. He used to hold a huge wrench in his hands, but it has been missing for at least a year now. We can't figure out where it went!
[Elaine Mace, 10/28/2000] Great burger restaurant, with an eclectic mix of iconic commercial collectibles on display.
