Inspired by a foil-wrapped potato (seriously), the Markel Building has been deemed one of the ten ugliest buildings in the world.

- Northeast of downtown, one block south of US-250/N. Broad St., between Willow Lawn Drive and Byrd Ave., on the north side of Markel Rd.
The horse is on the southwest side of the Virginia Museum of History & Culture, off the street between two buildings. The sculpture is to remind us of the 1.5 million horses and mules that were killed, wounded, or died of disease during the Civil War. It's an amazing monument to the animals.

A lot of interesting things to see, from insects to humans. Giraffe head and neck -- neat to see how tall just that portion is up close. They have bones, skins, whole animals, pieces in jars, quills, crystals, so much more I can't remember it all. They still require masks at this time.

We wasted time because we misread the cemetery map. The black dog statue is at the corner of Cedar and Confederate Avenues. A lot of people have put dog statues on graves, so it can be confusing. Be sure to talk to Woody, the caretaker in the chapel. He is awesome!
