Monument: The Farthest the U.S. ever got Invading Canada
Hamilton, Ontario
The War of 1812 was going great for the U.S. until they got here. That's when a ragtag group of British soldiers, Canadian militiamen, and Indians routed the American army in a sneak night attack at Stoney Creek, on June 6, 1813. The Yanks ran all the way back to the New York border, and never got this far again. Dreams of annexing Canada -- or at least the good parts of Canada -- were dashed.
One hundred years later, the Canadians erected a giant tower on the spot, so that no one can forget who won (and lost) the War of 1812.
