Presidential Theme Rooms and Mural (Gone)
Thurmont, Maryland
Presidents have vacationed in this area since Herbert Hoover in 1930, and the Cozy Inn has housed advisors, visiting delegations, and the press. Theme rooms include the Kennedy, "complete with a bidet which Jacqueline Kennedy made famous in the United States while living in The White House."
On the outside of the Inn is a sweeping, crazy mural: FDR waves from his car while overhead an angel and devil duel in the sky with sword and pitchfork; a golden giant Jesus glows on the horizon; Kennedy and Krushchev point toward an orbiting Mercury capsule; Richard Nixon stands waggling his fingers in V-for-Victory signs; and a paunchy LBJ sits on a stump, talking on a home telephone, while The Ink Spots croon "Glow Little Glowworm" in the background.
