Best Collection of TVs in the World
Toronto, Ontario
Canadian media mogul Moses Znaimer began collecting television sets in the 1960s because he thought that they were beautiful. While the picture tubes may have been crappy, the surrounding cabinets could be stylish works of art, such as the futuristic 1958 Philco Predicta Pedestal set, the spherical portable tvs from the 1970s, or the 1957 Kuba Komet whose cabinet could puncture eyeballs or flesh with its dramatic wooden batwing.
The most valuable tv in the collection is the one-of-a-kind RCA TRK-12 Phantom Teleceiver, a clear Lucite television showcased at the 1939 New York World's Fair, and now insured for a million dollars.
Znaimer's museum displays nearly 200 of his favorite sets, including the personal televisions of Elvis and Marilyn Monroe, both surprisingly unspectacular.
