Strawberry building and boulder. World's Largest Strawberry

The new location is thriving and the ice cream is great. In addition to the strawberry building, which houses the ice cream stand, there are numerous boulders painted to resemble blocky, angular fruit all around it.

World's Largest Strawberry

Mr Berry just moved his strawberry 2 miles north up the road from Rockingham. It is now right off of Hwy 220 (Exit 8 - Ellerbe Exit) on Cargo Road...Still visible from Hwy 220.

[Brian Hubbard, 02/13/2012]

Lee Berry, a strawberry farmer, built the "berry" in 2003. It's 20 feet tall, 80 feet around, and weighs 8 tons. Berry says it's the World's Largest Strawberry, and reportedly called a rival World's Largest Strawberry town in Iowa to stake his claim. He's also reportedly suing North Carolina for $1 million for making him move his big berry in 2012.

The giant strawberry building is part of a farmer's market. It is on interstate 220, about 2 miles south of the town of Ellerbe.

The big strawberry ice cream shop now has a web site at worldslargeststrawberry.com.

[Pat Mills, 03/12/2008]

Compared to other World's Largest Strawberry claimants, this ice cream shop stretches the definition of "Strawberry." Still, it's a pleasingly weird-shaped and painted building...and they did grab the domain name!

Strawberry-shaped Building

This is an old fashioned homemade ice cream shop in the shape of a strawberry -- complete with stem! The owner is a strawberry farmer, with the last name Berry. He makes ice cream with wooden Amish churns. They also feature a fresh market produce stand with homemade jams, jellies, pickles, etc.

It has 2 bathrooms, diaper changing tables, RV parking, pet rest areas, an old church pew and picnic tables for relaxing while eating ice cream on their homemade waffle cones, or to munch on their own boiled peanuts accompanied by a glass-bottled coke.
