Visitor Tips and News About Barn Mural of Dancing Cow and Pig
The Dancing Cow and Pig Barn has completed its renovation and is back in all its glory. The barn has been completely fixed up, repainted, and a new mural has been painted on it by the original muralist. The owner, Dale Hawkins, son of the original owner of the barn when the original painting was done for a radio contest in 1992, invited Sylvia Lindowitz back from Arizona to re-paint her original.[Jim H, 10/28/2015]
The mural will be re-painted this week on the barn by the original artist! The barn was renovated during the past two years. It should be complete by the end of October![Mary Ann R, 10/10/2015]
Sadly, the mural of the dancing cow and pig is no longer there. The barn's siding has been replaced. I have no information as to whether or not the mural will be replaced. I miss this, as it always made me smile.[Goatess, 07/14/2015]
The origin of the Dancing Cow and Pig was a contest for a now defunct alternative rock radio station. The radio station sent out vans and if they spotted their call letters, you would win a good size prize. Alas, the dancing cow and pig did not win, but the good town of Nokesville won a memorable icon.
Everything of the original painting remains the same, except the radio station stuff has been painted over.[Jason Margolies, 01/31/2008]
In the "metropolis" of Nokesville, Virginia (pop:1,200), there is a big green barn with a dancing cow and pig painting facing north (seen from southbound lane). The owner has periodically maintained the painting, as it has been there for at least 10 years now.[Jim Heverin, 01/11/2006]
