Visitor Tips and News About Kaskaskia Dragon
Totally worth the stop -- minutes off the highway. It shows up on Google maps, but just in case, you can enter this in your GPS: Lo Mac's Liquor, 1412 N Rock Island Ave, Vandalia, IL 62471-4118.
It's the liquor store previously mentioned, located directly across the street. And you're gonna want to buy at least 4 or 5 coins. It's just that awesome. You'll want to do it more than once.[James, 02/07/2012]
The dragon is totally worth the stop, especially at night![Eric, 08/12/2011]
So worth the extra 2 minutes! Even my critic husband was impressed! And the liquor store staff was soooo friendly! Would be better at night, and the liquor store is open late almost every night.[Beckycrocker, 06/05/2011]
It is right off the interstate, like 2 minutes. It is all it is cracked up to be. Ya go to the liquor store, get a token for a buck, pop it in and voila! Dragon breathes fire. There are a lot of oddball attractions and this is my favorite!
They say that at night it is the real treat. Ronnie James Dio had a fire breathing dragon on stage in the mid 80's...he would be proud...R.I.P Ronnie.
The guy at the liquor store informed us of the old Vandalia State House, which is a winner to go see (1st state capitol in Illinois...home to some Lincoln/Douglass epic debates). If not for the dragon I would never would have seen the old capitol![Paul Druhan, 10/29/2010]
