A plaque marks the patch of grass where Washington's politicians maimed and killed each other. Dueling was illegal in DC, so the combatants found a spot just over the border in Maryland. The last duel here was in 1868.

This is truly a small patch of grass on the corner of 38th and Bladensburg Rd (alt route 1). It has the historical marker that describes the grounds, along with one of the more "famous" pirate duels.
The floodplain of the aquaducted river is nice and is part of a pilot project, called a "rain garden," that helps filter contaminates out of rain water as it seeps into the soil. There is a sign next to the IHOP parking lot describing this process. You can park across 38th at IHOP and then stop and eat afterwards!
