Burlesque Hall of Fame Exotic World (aka the Retired Strippers' Hall of Fame) lives on in its current incarnation as the Burlesque Hall of Fame in Las Vegas. The modestly sized -- if not modestly displayed -- exhibit fits in a couple of small rooms off the entrance to the Emergency Arts building on Fremont Street.
We were told Dixie Evans ("The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque") might be there to meet fans. While Dixie was under the weather and couldn't make it, we got to meet "Satan's Angel," an exotic dancer known for her signature flaming tassels act. Angel reminisced about the Burlesque circuit and all the fun out at the Miss Exotic World Pageant that was held in Helendale, CA from 1990 to 2004.
The pageant now takes place in Las Vegas each June. The museum hopes to expand into new quarters eventually, to properly display the bulk of the collection in storage.
[12/23/2010]The Burlesque Hall of Fame is only open Fri-Sunday, from 12pm-5pm. If you can, be sure to go on a Sunday, when Dixie Evans (The Marilyn Monroe of Burlesque) is there, giving tours, telling stories and signing pictures.
